Uriel Weinreich’s Modern English-Yiddish Yiddish-English Dictionary, first published in 1968, has become an indispensible resource for generations of Yiddish scholars, as well as anyone else who has ever set out to learn Yiddish.

Few realize that the publication of the dictionary might not have been possible without the help of businessman, communal activist, and Yiddishist Solomon Bogorad, who is profiled in the December 1964 issue of Yedies. Yiddish studies would have been very different without him.
