This short item in the Winter 1970-71 edition of Yedies reported on a meeting of a group of  YIVO Yiddish scholars with the Chief of the Terminology Section of the Department of Conference Services at the United Nations.

Mordkhe Schaechter (1927-2007) was a distinguished Yiddish linguist and teacher.  One of his books, Plant Names in Yiddish, can be downloaded for free here.

Leybl Kahn (1926-1999) was a bibliographer and folklore collector for YIVO, who was also active in the Freeland League and the League for Yiddish. Field recordings that he made of the Yiddish folksinger Lifshe Schaechter-Widman in 1954 were released in 1986 as the album, Az di furst avek (When You Go Away).

David L. Gold was the co-editor of  Jewish Language Review and taught in the Department of Hebrew Language and in the Yiddish Studies Program at the University of Haifa.

Thomas Bird teaches at Queens College, where he has served as Director and Co-Director of the Jewish Studies Program. He has also served as a member of the editorial board of Yidishe shprakh, as secretary and chairman of the Yiddish Section of the Modern Language Association, and as Treasurer and Vice-President of The League for Yiddish.
