2026 Study Tour of the Balkans

Trip starts July 12

From the renowned Sarajevo Haggadah to the old Jewish synagogues of the Adriatic coast, from the charming lanes of Osijek to the legendary Old Town of Mostar, this trip will offer a revealing look at the little-known but fascinating history of Jews in the Balkans and their resilience in the face of centuries of conflict and upheaval. Led by eminent historian Dr. Samuel Kassow and noted author and photographer Edward Serotta, we will visit lands that straddled the border of Christianity and Islam and study Jewish communities shaped by both Ashkenazi and Sephardi cultures. As a bonus participants will see some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe, from the Adriatic coast to the gorgeous lakes and mountains of Slovenia

The tour will be chaired by Irene Pletka, vice-chair of the YIVO Board of Directors.
