“Persona Non Grata” is a Japanese historic drama depicting the life of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara. Sugihara was stationed in Lithuania in 1939 and put himself at risk to save the lives of 6,000 Jewish refugees by issuing transit visas for them to Japan. Sugihara is often referred to as the “Japanese Schindler,” and his efforts later earned him the distinction of “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Israeli government. This film has never been screened in NYC and is offered here as a special private screening for the YIVO and CJH communities on the occasion of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
